An interesting job, lifelong learning, an attractive salary package, lots of career opportunities, and a pleasant working atmosphere? Check! But BNP Paribas Fortis also earned the 'Top Employer Belgium' label for the tenth consecutive year thanks to its focus on equal opportunities, inclusivity, and a healthy work-life balance.
Yes, we are proud. Being recognised as a Top Employer Belgium for the tenth consecutive year... can you think of a better way to start the year? Every year, the international Top Employers Institute awards this quality label. This independent institution evaluates the HR policy of companies all over the world. In order to receive this label, companies must submit to a robust research process, consisting of an extensive online questionnaire on all HR aspects and an objective assessment of their answers.
What makes a company a great employer? Salary, training, flexibility, and career opportunities. Yes, this is and always will be important. But when we talk to our employees, we realise that it's the subjective elements that really make a difference. Including nice colleagues with whom you enjoy working and from whom you can learn. Doing a job in which you make a positive contribution to society and the lives of customers. Or being able to organise yourself in such a way that you can easily combine a busy private life with a flourishing career.
The bank has once again achieved an above-average score for diversity and inclusivity in particular. This only confirms that the many initiatives that specifically focus on this are a success.
Simon finds it important that he can learn and develop and “continue to stretch his brain”. But also that he can really be himself. "The bank strongly believes in well-being at work. There is a general sense of openness and trust here, which I appreciate tremendously. I'm also trying to contribute to this myself, as a member of the board of BNP Paribas Pride, our in-house LGBTQIA+ network. I and five of my colleagues are working with HR to see how we can promote the effective inclusion of LGBTQIA+ persons at the bank. But we also roll up our sleeves ourselves, by volunteering in a home for LGBTQ youth and young adults, for example."
As an ambitious working mum, Inge has a lot of balls to keep in the air. "I'm very happy to work in an environment where I can develop a challenging career full of enriching encounters, without having to sacrifice my entire private life for it. It’s okay to block a moment in your busy schedule to catch your children's dance performance. At the same time, I don't mind hiring a babysitter on nights that I need to attend a networking event. My golden rules? Have a good schedule, don't be too hard on yourself, and take the time to reflect on your small and big successes now and then."
Jobs for life are a thing of the past. But an employer for life? That’s exactly what we're striving to be. Because Positive Banking also means creating a working environment where everyone can be themselves and develop their full potential.
