Make sure you don’t forget anything when you go on holiday

3 min

The day of your big trip is approaching. Because sometimes it’s easy to forget things, we’ve made a checklist that will help you prepare for your foreign trip and think about the little things that can become not so little when you’ve arrived at your destination. After you’ve completed the checklist, you can relax, we promise!

Your cards

Manage your card settings yourself

Checking if you can use your cards on holiday is probably the first thing to do. In some cases, you'll need to change your card settings. With Easy Banking App, you can do this yourself, before or during your stay, and the changes take effect immediately. This video shows you how to do it: as you'll see, it's very simple.

Have you lost your card? You can easily block your card, temporarily or permanently, even from abroad, via Easy Banking App. We explain the steps you need to follow in this video.

Which card should you use to make payments or withdraw money?

Using a bank card can incur certain fees. These vary depending on the type of card you use and where you use it. It’s better to know them in advance so that you choose the right card when you’re paying or withdrawing money.

  • In the eurozone, payments are fee-free

Paying in the eurozone, with either your debit card and credit card, is fee-free.

  • Outside the eurozone: fees apply

Whether you use a debit card or credit card, fees apply at almost the same rates. The main difference concerns processing fees. Paying with a Visa or Mastercard credit card does not result processing fees, but only foreign exchange fees. So it’s preferable to use your credit card for payments in foreign currencies.

Withdrawing money in foreign currencies is not the best idea, because the fees are substantial. A withdrawal of €300 will cost you €8.65 in processing and foreign exchange fees using your debit card, compared with €10.80 with your credit card. It’s therefore better to use your debit card and withdraw all the money you need in one go, as you pay fees for each withdrawal.

The table below contains a detailed overview of the different fees and usage limits:

    Credit card Debit card
Withdrawals EUR  €6 + 1% of the amount withdrawn EEA: free
Outside the EEA: 0.30% of the amount + €2.86 (max €12.09)
Other currencies €6 + 1.60% foreign exchange fee applied to the amount withdrawn 0.30% + 1.63% of the amount + €2.86 (max €12.09)
  Limits €620 per 4 days €625 per day, €1,250 per 7 days
Payments EUR  Free EEA: free
Outside the EEA: 1.21% of the amount (max. €12.09)

Keep an eye on your budget

Do you want to have a clear view of your budget, even during your holiday? With Easy Banking App, it's possible.

Travel insured

If you’re well insured, you can travel with peace of mind

First, find out from your mutual health insurance company which risks you are insured for. If necessary, take out additional travel insurance.

Your travel insurance: extended guarantees

Imagine you’re unfortunate enough to fall ill during your stay, 12,000 km from home, and you have to go into hospital. If you take out Voyage Temporaire Touring insurance or a Voyage Annuelle Touring policy insurance from AG*, it will cover the medical expenses not covered by your mutual health insurance company. You will also benefit from extended assistance to bring you home. You’ll even be covered if you cancel your trip due to illness, serious accident or death.

Car breakdown

Your holidays don’t have to stop because your car breaks down. Whether you choose an add-on to your Top Assistance* insurance policy or take out a Touring Go breakdown policy with AG*, you can continue to enjoy your holidays by getting your car repaired or obtaining a replacement car.

Insurance for your holiday accommodation

You've arrived at your holiday rental, safe in the knowledge that your liability for damage to the house is covered by your Top Familiale* insurance policy. It also insures you and your family against damage caused to others.

Cycling holidays

Maybe you prefer to get on your bike and discover a new region while working up a sweat? Consider the Top Vélo* insurance policy. It protects your favourite bike, with or without electric assistance, against theft and material damage worldwide. It can also include assistance in almost all of Europe as well as physical injury cover worldwide.

Making a claim
