How can I pay a merchant using Apple Pay?

You can use your iPhone or Apple Watch to make contactless payments with Apple Pay at locations that display the Apple Pay symbol or contactless payment logo: shops, restaurants, taxis and ATMs etc.

iPhone with Face ID:

1. To pay with your default card, double-click the side button. To use a different card, double-click the side button, tap your default card and select another card.
2. Then look at your iPhone to authenticate with Face ID or enter your passcode.
3. Hold your iPhone near the payment terminal until you see the message “Done” and a tick on your iPhone screen. On the payment terminal, you can check if the payment was successful or declined.

iPhone with Touch ID:

1. To pay with your default card, hold your iPhone near the payment terminal and place your finger on the Home button to authenticate with Touch ID.
2. To use a different card, hold your iPhone near the payment terminal without touching the Home button. When your default card appears, tap it and select another card. Then place your finger on the Home button to pay.
3. Wait until you see the message “Done” and a tick on your iPhone screen.
4. On the payment terminal, you can check if the payment was successful or declined. 

Apple Watch:

1.  To pay with your default card, double-click the side button and hold the Apple Watch screen near the payment terminal. Wait until you feel a gentle vibration. On the payment terminal, you can check if the payment was successful or declined.
2. To use a different card, double-click the side button, then swipe left or right to select another card.
3. Hold your Apple Watch near the payment terminal to pay.
