Sharing photos on social media, chatting with loved ones, shopping or booking your holidays: the internet offers endless possibilities. But is your personal data secure?
Information circulating on the web can be intercepted or compromised, your device can be infected with a virus and your personal data can be stolen. So it’s essential to be extremely vigilant.
The internet brings with it many pitfalls, so cybersecurity must become a habit. Discover our tips and tricks to secure your personal data and protect yourself from fraud.
Phishing, identity theft, data theft, malware... Scammers are constantly inventing new, more realistic and sophisticated techniques. A lapse of concentration can have serious consequences. Here are some tips to secure your personal data and avoid problems.
YOUR ONLINE SECURITY
The longer, more unusual and complex your passwords are, the harder they will be to compromise. Here are some tips:
Use a unique password for each application (personal or business). That way, if a hacker discovers one of your passwords, they won’t be able to access all your other applications.
Use a password manager to generate unique passwords for each app and website. There’s no need for you to remember them all, as your password manager keeps them in one place and you only need one password to access them. Practical and secure!
In addition to your password, use any physical security features offered by your device. They can include fingerprint or facial recognition, which identify you using your unique biological features. Also, activate your device lock.
This principle is known as two-factor authentication, and provides enhanced security.

Activate your device lock
Depending on your device's features (smartphone, tablet or computer) you can lock it with a code, your fingerprint or facial recognition.
Update your software
Most updates include security updates. This is why it’s essential to update your operating system and applications as soon as possible.
Only download apps from official stores
Some applications contain malware. Be cautious and only download your applications from the App Store or Google Play. Never click on a link to download or update an application.
Use a known and secure WiFi network
Connecting to a public WiFi network carries risks. When on the move, it's better to use your smartphone's WiFi hotspot feature or limit your connection time. At home, change your modem's original password and don't let strangers connect to your network.
Antivirus and anti-malware software
To avoid malware (software installed fraudulently on a computer to breach its security) and ransomware (malicious software that takes your personal data hostage), install antivirus or anti-malware software on your computer. Regularly scan your USB sticks with antivirus software.
