Theft insurance, in addition to your fire insurance policy, protects the contents of your home and compensates you for damage caused by theft or attempted theft.

Theft insurance is an optional add-on to AG’s Top Habitation Belgian-law buildings and contents fire insurance policy, distributed by BNP Paribas Fortis. The policy is valid for 1 year, at the end of which it will be renewed by tacit agreement for the same period, except where it is cancelled at least three months before the renewal date.  

For a policy taken out or renewed by tacit agreement on or after 1 October 2024, you have until two months before the renewal date to cancel it. In addition, from the second year onwards, you can cancel the policy at any time. Cancellation will take effect at the end of a 2-month period starting the day after notice is given by registered mail or served upon us, or the day after we provide an acknowledgement of receipt.

Top Habitation theft insurance

Unfortunately, burglaries and muggings are a fact of life. With our theft insurance, you get:

  • compensation for stolen items
  • compensation for damage caused by a theft or attempted break-in

Are you abroad for work or on holiday with your family? No problem! We cover you for theft involving violence or threats anywhere in the world, as well as the theft of items you temporarily take away with you.

Enjoy discounts on your Top Habitation policy

For every new Top Habitation policy taken out until 30 June 2025, you can enjoy multiple discounts, although the "Complete Client Insurance" discount cannot be combined with the "Welcome Gift" discount.

Fully Insured Client – 10%

Benefit from a 10% discount throughout the duration of your new contract¹, if you, or your spouse or legal or de facto cohabitant, also have at least one active contract with BNP Paribas Fortis in one of the following AG insurances:

Welcome gift – 10%

Benefit from a 10% discount for the first year of your new contract, if you do not meet the "Fully Insured Client" conditions¹.

 

EcoBonus – 10%

To encourage the improvement of your home's energy performance, you benefit from a 10% discount for the entire duration of your new contract if the insured property is equipped with:

  • solar panels
  • a heat pump
  • a domestic wind turbine

or if it has an energy certificate (PEB, EPC, EPB: A+, A or B in Wallonia and Flanders, and A, B or C in Brussels)¹.

¹ This discount is valid for new contracts and changes to existing contracts following a risk change (risk situation, policyholder’s status, building type, etc.). These contracts must relate to a single-family home, a furnished apartment, or an apartment building.

The discount applies to all guarantees subscribed, except for the guarantee related to natural disasters for homes in high flood risk areas (tariff "Tariff Office").

In the event of a claim, you can count on immediate assistance. A specialist is available to help you

Report your claim within 24 hours and provide your police report number.

Also consider theft prevention measures

If you’re away, get into good habits:

  • close and lock doors and windows
  • make arrangements to prevent your mailbox from overflowing and drawing attention to the fact that your home is empty 
  • avoid making social media posts that say that you’re away and how long for

If you have a certified alarm system installed, you can enjoy preferential rates.

What your cover includes

Theft insurance covers:

  • theft of insured contents

  • damage to insured contents following theft, attempted theft, vandalism or other malicious act

  • replacement costs for exterior door locks if a key or remote control is stolen

Theft insurance does not cover:

  • theft when the specified prevention measures in the Top Habitation policy have not been taken by the policyholder (e.g. failure to lock external doors in their absence)

  • theft committed, aided or abetted by you or your spouse or relatives of you or your spouse in the ascending or descending line

Personalise your theft insurance

Pack Vol+

The Vol+ pack allows you to extend the cover provided by your Top Habitation theft insurance 
policy.

Stolen goods are 100% covered (compared to 50% for the basic policy). Moreover, the amount of 
compensation you can claim is doubled. And because theft with violence or threats is a traumatic 
experience, the Vol+ pack covers medical expenses and five sessions with a psychologist. 

However, you won’t be covered if the theft occurs in a property that is not regularly occupied, or if 
the prevention measures specified in the contract policy have not been carried out.
