Top Employer Belgium is a valued quality label from the international Top Employers Institute. Each year, this independent institution evaluates the HR policy of companies all over the world.

Screening process

“To be recognised as a Top Employer, you have to go through a robust screening process”, says Wim Smet, HR Business Director at BNP Paribas Fortis. "This starts with an extensive online survey about your HR policy in all its aspects: terms and conditions of employment, onboarding of new employees, training offerings, career planning, well-being, corporate culture, etc. This is followed by a thorough analysis and an objective assessment of your answers." With an overall score of 88.3%, BNP Paribas Fortis is one of the 84 award-winning employers in Belgium. "The Top Employer label is a great recognition of our HR policy. The annual evaluation also encourages us to always want to do even better."

Continuous learning

According to the Top Employers Institute, one of the areas in which the bank excels is how it supports its employees in their professional and personal development. “We give our people every opportunity to develop their skills and build their careers", says Wim. "For example, we offer them a range of continuous training courses so that they can keep their knowledge up-to-date and broaden or deepen their expertise. This way, they increase their agility and employability, which is crucial in this rapidly-changing world."

Personal development plan

Because each person is unique and has different ambitions, everyone within the bank can map out their own path. Wim Smet: "In our online tool 'About me', employees can fill in and update their experiences, competencies and career goals at any time. This helps them to gain a good idea of what they can and want to do, and also forms the perfect basis for discussions with their manager or an HR Career Counsellor. This also enables them to make their abilities and ambitions visible within our Belgian bank and the international BNP Paribas group. This opens up a lot of opportunities".

Hundreds of vacancies

BNP Paribas Fortis is currently looking for motivated talent to help build the bank of the future. "This year, we will be recruiting over 500 people. And every vacancy can be the start of a rich, varied career within the bank", emphasises Wim. "A job for life is a thing of the past. But an employer for life? That still exists!"
