What is an ABA routing number?

An ABA routing number is a bank code used within the US local banking network. It is tied to a specific branch or bank (e.g. Citibank New York: 021000089). This code is not always the same as the Fedwire used for international payments, which is why we recommend that our clients request this "local" routing number. The beneficiary can find this code in the bottom left corner of their chequebook. The ABA code is always made up of 9 digits.
