The basis for your complementary pension

The legal pension is usually not enough to maintain your standard of living when you retire. To enjoy a happy retirement, it is best to build up a sufficient complementary pension yourself.

As a self-employed doctor, dentist, pharmacist, physiotherapist, speech therapist, midwife or nurse, the INAMI contract is an ideal basis for building up a complementary pension.

The INAMI contract in brief

Discover the main benefits of this pension insurance for affiliated healthcare providers.

A safe investment

With this branch 21 insurance policy, you benefit from the security of a protected capital and a guaranteed interest rate, which may be supplemented by an annual profit-sharing payment.

Simplified online application procedure

Simply request your INAMI intervention online and review your contract in detail with ProSanté. If you meet all the conditions, the INAMI will always pay the intervention into your contract by 15 January of the year following the contribution year (+2). For example, for the 2021 contribution year, the INAMI intervention will be paid by 15 January 2023 at the latest.

Additional guarantees

Thanks to the solidarity system, you benefit from financial protection in the event of incapacity for work, maternity, death, or serious illness.

Mortgage financing

You can use the accumulated reserve, even before your statutory retirement date, to purchase, build, or renovate a property in the European Economic Area.

Financed by the INAMI

Every year, you can request an INAMI intervention and pay it into an INAMI contract. This costs you nothing, as you do not pay the premiums yourself. Furthermore, no tax is withheld on these premiums.

Cumulative

You can easily combine this contract with a complementary pension for self-employed individuals, a group pension for self-employed individuals, a long-term savings plan, or a long-term investment plan.

Five solidarity benefits

Thanks to the payment of 10% of each INAMI intervention – minus the premium for incapacity for work – into a solidarity fund, you are entitled to:

  • a monthly allowance for up to one year in the event of incapacity for work
  • payment of the premium for the complementary pension insured by AG in the event of incapacity for work after a waiting period of 12 months
  • an intervention in the event of maternity leave
  • a survivor's pension for your loved ones for 10 years if you die before the end of the contract
  • a lump-sum payment of twice the last pension premium if you become seriously ill before the end of the contract

The INAMI intervention

The INAMI intervention is a financial compensation paid annually by the National Institute for Sickness and Disability Insurance to affiliated doctors, dentists, pharmacists, physiotherapists, speech therapists and independent nurses.

To benefit from the INAMI intervention, you must meet three conditions:

  • be fully or partially affiliated
  • meet the activity threshold defined for your profession
  • have an active contract on ProSanté into which your intervention will be paid

The amount of the INAMI intervention varies depending on the profession you practice. You will find an overview of the current applicable interventions below. You can choose to invest this amount in a complementary pension or in a guaranteed income insurance policy – the latter is not possible for speech therapists and independent nurses.

Yield, fees and risks

Guaranteed interest rate

The net amount of each premium – after deduction of taxes and entry fees – is invested until your pension (early) at the interest rate in force at the time of payment. This rate remains valid for the entire duration of the contract.

Variable profit-sharing payment

You also benefit from a possible annual profit-sharing payment on your premiums. This profit-sharing payment is not guaranteed, may vary from year to year, and depends on AG's results and the economic situation.

Detailed yield

The gross overall yield – the guaranteed interest rate + the profit-sharing payment – of the INAMI contract from AG was 2.40% in 2024. This yield does not take into account fees and taxes.

Here is a summary table of the gross overall yield for the last five years. It relates to past years and is not a reliable indicator of future yield.

Year Gross Overall Yield
2024 2,40%
2023 2,30%
2022 2,10%
2021 1,80%
2020 1,80%

Premiums and taxation at maturity

Your INAMI contract will be released on your statutory retirement date (early). When the capital is paid out, you pay an INAMI premium of 3.55% and a solidarity premium of up to 2% on the acquired capital and profit-sharing payment.

Furthermore, the capital is taxed according to the fictitious annuity system. This means that, for 10 or 13 years, you will have to declare a small percentage of the capital in your personal income tax return. The percentage to be declared and the duration of the declaration depend on your age at the time of pension payout.

Your profit-sharing payment is exempt from this taxation.

General sustainability policy

To reflect the responsible nature of its products, AG implements various strategies, including:

  • integrating environmental, social and governance factors (using ESG risk scores, among others)
  • excluding controversial activities (tobacco, arms, coal, unconventional energy sources, such as tar sands and shale gas and oil)
  • excluding companies that do not respect the principles of the United Nations Global Compact
  • adopting a "best-in-class" approach
  • active ownership

This product has ecological or social features but does not have a specific sustainable investment objective. You can find more information on AG's approach to sustainable and responsible investing applied to its branch 21 products.

The "Towards Sustainability" label

The INAMI contract received the "Towards Sustainability" label in March 2020. Regularly re-evaluated and under permanent control, the label is a quality standard supervised by the Central Labelling Agency (CLA). To meet this standard, financial products must meet a number of minimum sustainability requirements, both at the portfolio and investment process levels. You can find more information about the label on towardssustainability.be.

Obtaining this label does not mean that the INAMI contract meets your own sustainability objectives.
